Amid lockdowns, many venues have either shut down for good or had to move from their current home.
Rough Trade’s Brooklyn location on the Williamsburg waterfront will be closing down this Spring with plans to move the space to a new, undisclosed location this summer, according to a press release.
Their team has also stated that the 300 capacity concert venue within the shop, operated by Bowery Presents, will not be part of the move.
“Our much-loved Williamsburg store has done us proud in helping establish Rough Trade as a New York-worthy music retail and gig destination, serving the city’s music lovers and the wider music artist community with expertise, creativity and passion,” said Stephen Godfroy, Rough Trade co-owner in a statement Monday.
All online ticket holders will have their purchases refunded automatically via AXS with no action required. All physical purchases made in the shop will need to make their returns at the shop’s box office (open to select dates).
Rough Trades closure is another critical blow to New York’s nightlife, but the waterfront space will remain open for a little while longer.
“Rest assured, Rough Trade will retain its presence in New York – we look forward to sharing details of our exciting new plans in coming months,” Godfroy said. “In the meantime, we look forward to welcoming ‘first time’ and returning customers to our Williamsburg store, along with all of those enjoying the convenience of shopping at Rough Trade dotcom.”
