Israeli pop craftsman and multi-instrumentalist, iogi, debuts his latest single “you\me\everyone” accompanied by a sci-fi retro music video.
Calling Tel Aviv home, iogi, aka Yogev Glusman, has been hard at work throughout the city’s rapidly growing independent scene. He’s played alongside Israel’s most recognizable artists like Idan Raichel, A-WA, Yoni Rechter, Shlomo Gronich and many more.
In 2018, iogi signed with his hometown label, Raw Tapes Records, founded by Stones Throw signee Rejoicer. Iogi’s debut album the ceiling was released on Raw Tapes that year and has since gained a dedicated following.
Iogi’s songs are delectable, dream-pop inspired vignettes that shimmer colorfully. He’s well adverse in making you feel as though you’re soaring high above the clouds, free from the barrage of troubles on the ground.
On “you\me\everyone,” iogi’s songwriting ability is on full display as a swagger filled drum line mixes with a warm embrace of synths and an earworm guitar pattern. The track is what you could imagine playing on an afternoon drive along the Pacific Coast Highway with the top down while you breathe the cool ocean air. Iogi’s soothing falsetto is weightless, beckoning you to join him at high altitude.
“you\me\everyone” was written as a part of an experiment: Let the music do the work.
“I got the basic groove of the song and the guitar riff, and I felt like writing whatever comes to my mind at the moment,” said iogi in a statement. “The lyrics ‘tell it like it is, tell us what you see, boy’ – is my way of saying to myself exactly that – there is no need to hide behind words, or look for something complicated to say. If it works for you – it works.”
The video directed by Roy Rieck is a retro-filled spin on the UFO tales of the 1950s starring iogi as a test pilot attempting to successfully build a flying saucer. Cold boardroom meetings, experiments, late night talk shows and aged footage of government programs are abound in this journey to space.
