The Texas-based duo Field Division are set to release their latest love-soaked ballad, “Manifest” on Friday, Feb. 26th.
Composed by Evelyn Taylor and Nicholas Frampton, the pair originally formed in 2014; settling on a sound that mixes ethereal pop melodies with cinematic instrumentation. In 2018, the duo signed with revered indie label, Bella Union, to release their debut LP Dark Matter Dreams.
In the midst of the pandemic, Taylor and Frampton began self-releasing a series of singles for cathartic release in a time of uncertainty. Heading into 2021, the band aimed to keep this momentum going. And they certainly did, beginning with “Manifest.”
The track features Taylor’s signature brooding vocals centered between instrumentals that recreate the effortless cool of driving through a desert highway with atmospheric guitar lines and soaring synthesizers. It’s a romantic and tension filled song with inklings of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks soundtrack, colored by lyrics of the search for meaning.
“Last year’s inescapable anxiety in the melodies and vocal delivery of the track; however, the message relays how positive thinking and self-awareness can help you visualize your desired future,” according to the band in a press release.
“The lyrics reflect a time when I was suffering from depression and what helped me was acknowledging that the way I direct my thoughts and energy is powerful.”
