New York’s Amiture shares a brooding new single, “Thief,” from his upcoming debut album The Beach which will be released March 19th on Dots Per Inch Music.
Under his pseudonym, musician Jack Whitescarver produces songs that drip with lust and longing. After changing gears stylistically, Whitescarver placed an emphasis on crafting a darkened mood while keeping his signature baritone vocal and pop sensibilities.
Whitescarver honed his sound during live performances over two years, laying the foundation for the material heard on The Beach. The album is seeped in sensual tension driven by pulsating rhythms, sweeping synths and lyrics that center on the human condition.
All these elements can be found on album opener “Thief,” where Whitescarver details a fragmented relationship. Whitescarver’s croon brims with pain and passion while sleek instrumentals paint images of illicit happenings beneath neon club lights like a scene straight out of 80’s film 9 ½ Weeks.
The track’s music video is the debut collaborative piece by Whitescarver and Anna Thérèse Witenberg that’s soaked in analog-era nostalgia. The video sees Witenberg traversing the night bewildered by her surroundings in search of a destination unknown.
“The video for ‘Thief’ is about someone who wakes up on a beach they’ve never seen before and the subsequent search for bearings in a very unfamiliar place,” said Whitescarver in a statement. “The town on the coast of Connecticut where my dad lives was the perfect location. In the off season, it is completely empty and you’re left with this feeling that you’re at the end of the Earth. This feeling of being on the edge of reality is the thread that ties The Beach together.”
