Disney actress turned pop star Olivia Rodrigo is facing backlash following accusations of “blatant plagiarism” of Brooklyn band Pom Pom Squad.
The Wednesday Twitter thread started by the user @HoneyCuttband highlighted striking resemblances between Olivia Rodrigo’s recent visual campaign for her album Sour and the band’s previous promotional images.
The thread stemmed from a viral TikTok video that was taken down, according to the Twitter user.
In over 5 side-by-side comparison photos, the thread presents the claim that Rodrigo ripped off the Brooklyn band’s recent aesthetic, which is a combination of a high school cheerleader and early ‘90s grunge queen.
The similarities include exact poses, eerily similar outfits and overall mise-en-scène.
Had a tiktok going viral that had photos that show how Olivia rodrigos team have been very ~inspired~ by Pom Pom Squads music/album art/Insta posts/style/vibe etc and have copied pps frequently thru olivias campaign. It got reported and taken down. So Ima post the pics here:

Ears to Feed reached out to Pom Pom Squad for comment, but has not heard back as of Thursday afternoon.
Both Rodrigo and her team have yet to publicly comment on the accusations.
The thread comments are in overwhelming support of Pom Pom Squad frontwoman Mia Berrin.
“Mia has been like basically world building over the course of an entttiirree career as well!! Like the music videos, all the promotion, the music itself revolves around this really carefully curated thing!!” one user wrote.
“It’s all high school/prom themed so having similar pictures once I could write off as a coincidence but damn this is soooo much there’s no way it’s not just blatantly copying,” another said.
Pom Pom Squad’s album, Death of a Cheerleader will be released Friday.
