Today’s guest on In Conversation is Rob Grote of the Pennsylvania indie rock band, The Districts. Starting back in 2009 when Grote and his bandmates were still in high school, The Districts have covered a significant amount of ground—jumping from ‘60s influenced roots music to revved-up early-aughts inspired anthemic indie rock.
Out today on Fat Possum records, their latest album Great American Painting was recorded at the legendary Sunset Sound Studio in LA by famed producer Joe Chiccarelli (The Strokes, Beck, Spoon) and finds them exploring new territory as they mix in elements of 80s synth pop and new wave.
In this conversation we discuss how this album feels like a rebirth for The Districts, being in a successful band at such a young age, sage wisdom the band learned from Dr. Dog and Modest Mouse, and so much more.
