On this episode of In Conversation, our guest is Devin McKnight who records music under the moniker Maneka.
McKnight originally cut his teeth playing in Grass is Green and Speedy Ortiz while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. Out now on Skeletal Lightning, Dark Matters is his third release as Maneka and it goes further into the difficult to pin down territories of his previous two releases. It’s a dizzying listen as he goes from indie rock and punk, abrasive noise rock, and even incorporates elements of jazz and modern hip-hop, sometimes within a single song.
In this conversation we discuss the writing and recording of Dark Matters, paying respects to the elder statesmen of the DC Dischord scene, the need for more inclusion in rock music, the frustrating watering down of indie rock, and so much more.
