Writing this from my living room in FL, I can’t help but realize tonight there will be no live concerts happening across the world. Its a near punch in the gut for someone whose akin to running around venues across Brooklyn, followed by a post-show hang at a neighborhood bar filled to the brim with folks trying to break free of the daily grind that the city swallows you in. For the past week, the US has been put on lockdown with folks being told to remain confined to their rooms as to not continue a pandemic of the new Coronavirus, an illness that has been attributed as an heir to one of history’s most deadliest pandemics — the 1918 Spanish Influenza. As I grow accustomed to my new home-bound surroundings itching for a need of escapism from a world in turmoil, one can only take scrolling through Instagram and running through beloved TV series so much… and its only been a week so who knows where our heads will be at in a month’s time.
In good order, London based duo PC World have delivered a sardonic rhythm infused EP from Cincinnati label, Wasted Tapes. Infused with an iron clad drum machine, reverb drenched vocals and a knack for hearkening the hysteria of the social media age with a groove that paints an image of the dystopian future of The Grid from Tron. Comprised of William Deacon (vox) and Ryan Bellet (instrumentals), the group is super fresh having just played a handful of live shows in their hometown while gaining a cult-following when they originally released this EP last year via young London upstart label, Gob Nation. There is no room left to breathe on this project, each sweltering lyric echoed by Deacon is immediately bolstered by Bellet’s sequenced synths that lead you down a path of madness in the aptly titled opening track, “Running Man” which is juxtaposed by the house infused pulse of “Next In Line”.
