In this end of the year series, Ears to Feed spoke with some of our favorite artists to see what helped them get through 2020.
Chicago’s Ganser manage to soundtrack the imminent collapse of society on their dissonant third LP Just Look At That Sky released in July. Frantic lyrics that cut as quick as they’re pronounced, combined with high anxiety instrumentals and rhythmic tension bring the collective misery of our times to life.
Drummer Brian Cundiff told us about the daily routine that kept his year intact.
As far as TV shows, Cundiff watched the MotorTrend channel while working out. He is fascinated by extreme auto restorations, especially in the European shows. Cundiff also binged What We Do In The Shadows, Succession and I May Destroy You. He noted that The Mandalorian has proven to be a nice distraction.
Cundiff’s film of choice was the Japanese horror comedy One Cut Of The Dead. “If you’re tired of stale, American horror formulas, this one is a wild ride,” he said.
Podcasts also played a big part throughout Cundiff’s days, especially WTF with Marc Maron. “When the weather was warmer, there was a lot of hanging out in the backyard in the evening hours listening to podcasts. Marc Maron has been leading the charge there,” Cundiff said.
He has also casually kept up with Manchester City football, as well as periodically searched Tom Baker on Google to ensure “he’s still alive.”
