In this end of the year series, we at Ears to Feed spoke with some of our favorite artists to see what albums, films, shows, and any other forms of art or activities have helped them to cope through this trying year.
The raw energy that is spewed from Philadelphia’s revelatory hardcore group Soul Glo is iconic in it’s sheer determination to illustrate the vast amount of racial hatred and anguish that flows through American society. The group has released a string of fast-paced albums that are embedded with themes centered around economic injustice, police brutality and life lived on the margins. Vocalist Pierce Jordan writhes in pain with every shrill shriek he delivers, sewn with the four pieces’ dynamic instrumentals that conjure relentless intensity, hip hop’s unabashed honesty and a desire to push all genre constraints away.
Their latest album Songs To Yeet At The Sun is a statement on musical exorcism at its most primal with a short time span that will undoubtedly have you recycling the track’s on repeat. An album that’s tied to America’s horrid past, this past summer’s wave of protests against racial injustice and the uncertain future that lies ahead. In an overwhelming year, we’ve asked Pierce to share a list of albums, films, TV series and activities that make the days a bit more tolerable.
