On this episode of In Conversation, we spoke with none-other than the phenomenal Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett as well as her friend and filmmaker Danny Cohen about their brand new film Anonymous Club. In theaters now, the documentary catches up with Barnett as she and her band tour behind their 2018 album Tell Me How You Really Feel. During this time, Cohen suggested that Barnett start to keep an audio diary each day, a process that ultimately went on for three years.
By using these dictaphone journals, as well as Cohen’s fly on the wall camerawork, the film offers a warts and all representation of Barnett’s life on the road, her creative process as she writes and records her 2021 album Things Take Time, Take Time, as well as her daily struggles with depression.
We caught up with both Barnett and Cohen to talk about the process of making the film and how they feel now that it has been released into the world.
