Los Angeles’ CHILLEMI laments and soothes the soul on his new western inspired duet, “Evil Eye,” featuring guest vocals from Nasa Hadizadeh of Rose Cologne.
Songwriter Brian Chillemi has come a long way as an active touring musician circling the U.S. and European live circuit for the past decade. A native New Yorker and former member of dark psychedelia troupe Rose Cologne, Chillemi decided to make the move out west to L.A. mere months before the pandemic set in.
Adapting to his new environment, Chillemi honed his craft and explored cinematic weight on his solo material that would shape his debut album With Woman out April 23.
The album is equal parts western grit, sorrowful ballads and strident instrumentals that conjure visions of a lonely traveller seeking redemption from a cruel past.
On his latest single, Chillemi reunites with his former bandmate and Rose Cologne vocalist Nasa Hadizadeh. A disheartened guitar swarms around the listeners head as Chillemi and Hadizadeh harmonize a tale of love withering away. “Truth is misspoken, lip’s whisper lies,” softly coons Chillemi and Hadizadeh as a tender synth line echoes in the background.
“I wrote ‘Evil Eye’ during a very tumultuous time in my personal life and had to convey what I was feeling, in some way, to better understand it,” said Chillemi in a statement. “Having a shared experience, along with some lyrical assists, the duet evolved and is the first time Nasa and I sang together.”
