Brooklyn shoegaze duo No Swoon return with a spacy new single, “Beside” in conjunction with the release of their second zine, Do It Ourselves. The track features airy vocals from guitarist Tasha Swoon gliding over an array of synths. The song is imbued with a sense of melancholy and the strange dream that inspired it’s creation:
“During such a tumultuous year, we have been gravitating towards writing music that was more introspective, rather than the fiery songs from our first record. “Beside” acts as part 2 of “Don’t Wake Up, Wake Up,” (the post-punk inspired first track from our debut LP). While “Beside” feels like it’s on the total opposite end of the spectrum, it continues to tell the story of a very bizarre dream I (Tasha) had, in which I was traveling out of control on an upside-down road that ended at a huge, bright, calm space that I later found was the home of a cult. The dream stopped there, so hopefully it will continue by the time we are writing LP3.”
The second issue of the DIY zine focuses on the vision of a constantly evolving music industry and personal essays on the effects the pandemic has had on touring life. This issue features interviews with Liz Pelly, Union of Musicians And Workers (UMAW), No Joy, and Moaning; Plus contributions from Ganser, Moonheart and more. All proceeds from the zine and single will be donated to The Okra Project, an organization that seeks to combat hunger and a lack of resources in the Black Trans community.
