We’ve asked Black Marble’s Chris Stewart to curate a Valentine’s themed playlist for every lover and loner this weekend. Here are a few words from Chris:
“Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone out there! I’m thrilled to present my V-Day playlist, hopefully with a little something for everyone. We start off with a palette cleanser, Anthrax by Gang of Four, an anti-love song about the glut of pop music songwriting relying too much on the subject matter. From there we explore a few avenues, from romantic twee tunes about first kisses by Beat Happening to warnings on the perils of STDs by They Might Be Russians, to ruminations on unrequited love by Jilted John, where he admits about his rival that “I wish I could smash his face in” and his former lover responding, “he’s more of a man than you’ll ever be.” After a 20-track trip around derision, innocence, jealousy, and many others, it seems like love may be our most primal emotion, feeding into the others like spokes on a wheel. No matter where you’re at, hopefully something here speaks to you. Stay safe and stay sane today!
Love Chris”
